Cancer Support Services in Hull | City Spotlight

The port city of Kingston Upon Hull, more commonly known as Hull, has a history dating back to the 12th century. Today it is a thriving city and was even the UK City of Culture in 2017.

Our latest City Spotlight shines a light at some of the cancer support services in the city of Hull.

Prostate Cancer Support Group – Hull and East Riding

Part of the national organisation, this local support group based at Castle Hill Hospital provides psychological and social support to people living with or affected by prostate cancer. It offers an informal meeting place for people to share personal experiences with each other it and it informs and advises people and carers about the diagnosis and treatments. Help and support is currently held online due to COVID-19.

Macmillan Cancer Support Information Centre at Castle Hill Hospital

This drop in support centre offers free and confidential information and support in a relaxed and comfortable environment for those with cancer or family and friends dealing with the effects. Services at the centre include counselling, benefits advice, self-help and practical support, courses and workshops. Check website for latest information during the current pandemic.

Dove House Hospice

A hospice that provides a wide range of services and care for people in the local community with life limiting, progressive or terminal illness who are over the age of 18. They offer physical, social, psychological and spiritual support plus practical advice on site or at home from a multi-professional team who embrace the family and significant others throughout the patient’s illness. 

Survivorship Programme at Castle Hill Hospital

Also based at Castle Hill Hospital, this is a programme for people living with and beyond cancer. It focuses on recovery, health and wellbeing after cancer treatment. Services include one-to-one assessments, community clinics, long-term follow ups and telephone support. Other activities include a singing group, walking group and wellbeing course. Hull Brain Tumour Support Group

The Neuro support group meets every month, usually on a Monday at Queen’s Centre, Castle Hill Hospital to give patients and carers the chance to meet each other and have the opportunity to talk and gain peer support. They have regular guest speakers join the group to deliver talks on relevant topics. Contact the host via the website to ensure meetings are going ahead as planned.

HER Breast Friends Support Group and Charity

A local charity offering a wide range of support, practical advice, information, and guidance to people affected by breast cancer. In normal times they offer a private, appointment-based bra service for people affected by breast cancer. Their wig service is also open to all cancer and hair loss patients in the Hull and East Riding area.
