Whilst not quite a city, the large town of Huddersfield in the borough of Kirklees, West Yorkshire is a place steeped with history and was the birthplace of two time Prime Minister, Harold Wilson.
Today it is the home to an amazing selection of cancer support services serving the people of Huddersfields and the Kirklees.

Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre – Huddersfield
The Macmillan Information and Support Service is based on the Greenlea Oncology Unit at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. They provide practical help and advice for everyone living with or affected by cancer including benefits advice, applying for grants, disabled parking badges, home adaptations, and counselling and work support. They run support groups and signpost to local support groups, along with information about cancer treatment and managing its side effects. Bladder Cancer Support Group – Calderdale and Huddersfield
A support group for people living with bladder cancer where you can talk to people who have been through or are going through the same thing. They offer help and practical advice as well as support for family and friends. Meetings are currently suspended due to government restrictions, but patients can access support via email or telephone.
Charity offering private and confidential support and help to those who are grieving, following the death of someone close. They offer the chance to speak to someone in confidence in a secure and non-judgemental way and receive practical help and advice. At the moment all services are via telephone or email, so check the website or call their helpline number on 0808 808 1677.
Lymphoma Action – Brighouse Support Group
A service that offers practical advice and support for all those affected by lymphoma. The coronavirus pandemic means their face-to-face support groups can’t meet at present, but the online support meetings can connect you with others affected by lymphoma plus give you help and advice including group chats and webinars.
Jayne Garforth Macmillan Information and Support Centre
A Macmillan support service based at the Jayne Garforth Macmillan Unit at Calderdale Royal Hospital. They offer a wide range of help and advice from treatment advice, help with benefits and managing your diet. They can signpost to local support groups, along with information about cancer treatment and managing its side effects.
Kirkwood – The Hospice for Kirklees
A local hospice offering specialist care, free of charge, to adults in Kirklees with advanced, progressive illnesses at any time from diagnosis to the end of life. The hospice provides complementary therapies, tai chi, support and spiritual care, inpatient care, day services, family support, home support and psychological and emotional support for bereaved children and young people.
