Cancer Support Services in Cheltenham | City Spotlight

The town of Cheltenham in Gloucestershire is best known for its plethora of festivals, from horse racing to jazz, this spa town has it all. It’s also home to a collection of fantastic cancer support services.

For our latest spotlight on cancer services, we take a look at those in the town of Cheltenham.

CHELTENHAM 

Focus Cancer Information Centre

Information and support centre based at the Oncology Centre at Cheltenham General Hospital who support patients at every step; from a diagnosis of cancer to advice during and beyond their treatment. The team work alongside the NHS clinical team and offer daily support of pre-chemotherapy and pre-radiotherapy information sessions together with practical and emotional support and advice to patients and their families and carers.

Maggie’s Centre Cheltenham

Part of a national chain of help centres that provides information, practical help, activities and a space to meet and share experiences with others. Services include support groups, welfare and benefits advice, wellbeing workshops and complementary therapies. It’s a non-clinical place, where anyone affected by cancer can just sit and relax, talk with professionals or join in with the group activities available. 

Brain Tumour Support – Cheltenham Group

An organisation who hold meetings at Maggie’s Centre who offer help to anyone affected by brain cancer. Group meetings are normally held on the second Tuesday of the month, at 1.30pm –3.00pm, with dates posted on their website. During the pandemic most of their services are happening online and by phone, please check the website for details. 

The Camomile Rooms

A therapy centre based in the heart of Cheltenham that offers holistic therapies free of charge for people undergoing treatment for cancer. Therapies include reflexology, various massages, osteopathy, nutritional therapy, and more. Bookings must be made online in advance and they are also currently offering online consultations.

Lymphoma Action – Cheltenham Support group

Due to the Covid pandemic this Cheltenham based group are offering all of their services online. Their online support meetings provide an opportunity to meet others who have been affected by lymphoma and share experiences. Attendees can expect a mixture of speakers and helpful discussions on lymphoma-related topics as well as referrals to other useful organisations. 

Leckhampton Court Hospice

A local hospice run by the Sue Ryder group that provides palliative care and support for people who are living with a life-limiting condition, as well as supporting their families and loved ones. They offer a day hospice service and an at home service for people in the local community who prefer to receive their care at home. Other services include spiritual care, physiotherapy, occupational and complementary therapy and bereavement support.
