The city of Chester may be known for having the most complete city walls, the oldest racecourse and the largest Roman Amphitheatre in Britain, but did you know it is also home to some incredible cancer support services?

Our latest City Spotlight takes a look at some of the cancer support services in Chester.

Macmillan Support and Information Service

Based at the Countess of Chester Hospital this support centre is part of the nationwide Macmillan service that offers a confidential environment to discuss cancer support and any concerns you may have. They offer support and advice to anyone affected by cancer or anyone worried by it.

Breast Cancer Support Group

A support group for women living with breast cancer in the Chester area that meets at various locations in Chester. The group hosts pamper sessions, walking groups, quizzes and social days and are an opportunity for woman to find support and connection over a chat, coffee and laughter. SWAGG – Support for Working Age Guys and Girls

Based at Catholic Club in Chester, this group was set up by cancer patients offering support, advice and friendship to those who have had a diagnosis of cancer or those affected by it of working-age. They host social activities throughout the year and also have a choir group. Some activities and meetings may be taking place online, please phone Koren Bailey on 01244 364 948 for more information.

Hospice of the Good Shepherd

Working with families in Cheshire this local hospice offers specialist care and a range of support services to people at the end of life and their loved ones. Services include complementary therapies, short courses as well as family support and bereavement services and inpatient services. Their dedicated team of staff and healthcare professionals aim to meet the unique physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of those with a life-limiting illness, and to help maintain their dignity.

Wirral and North Cheshire Prostate Cancer Support Group

A local support group providing help, emotional and practical support, and information to men living with prostate cancer who meet at Café at the Trinity Methodist Church, Whitby Road, Ellesmere Port. The group meets monthly for talks by guest speakers and also holds occasional social gatherings. Please check the website for more information including practical help and advice. 

Blood Cancer Support Group Frodsham

Frodsham-based support group for people living with lymphoma, myeloma, leukaemia or any other blood cancer. Meetings are currently suspended but check the website for practical help and advice. They also run an UK-wide private Facebook group where people can connect with others sharing similar experiences.
