When living with cancer, there is a great importance for looking after your health with physical exercise. This can not only lift your energy levels, but also your mood and psychological wellbeing. We spoke to Beth Boxall, founder and trainer at Bounce Back Exercise, about the services she offers to people facing the challenges of cancer and the motivations behind it.
Tell us a little about Bounce Back Exercise..
My name is Beth, I am a clinical exercise specialist based in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire. I provide exercise support for people with cancer, Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis – all populations that can benefit hugely from exercise programmes.
I started Bounce Back Exercise after being inspired by family members affected by these diseases and noticing that they have often been neglected by the fitness industry. I hope Bounce Back Exercise creates more opportunity for people to access clinical exercise support.
Cancer sufferers experience side effects including pain, fatigue and weakness. Research shows that exercise not only reduces symptoms and side effects of cancer but also plays a role in delaying disease progression. Having spent eighteen months rehabilitating cancer patients, I cemented a long-standing belief: “exercise is a medicine and if it were a pill, it would be prescribed to everyone”
What services do you offer people living with cancer?
With exercise there is no one size fits all and Bounce Back Exercise programmes help you find the workout that suits your physical and clinical needs, helps you achieve your goals and most importantly… you enjoy!
Our services:
Do you have a target demographic who use your services?
We work with anyone who has been affected by cancer as well as other illnesses including those with Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis. Exercise is beneficial for cancer patients pre, post and during treatment. Our training programmes help people cope with different disease symptoms and treatment related side effects. Everyone can benefit from an exercise programme and Bounce Back Exercise aims to create more opportunity for people to access exercise support.
How are you funded?
People can self-pay for our services. One-to-one exercise session prices start at £25 and our online exercise videos are free of charge.
What’s the most rewarding thing about the work you do?
When clients first come to me, I ask them what they would like to achieve. Nothing beats helping people achieve their goals and benefit from an exercise programme. It is wonderful to see clients become stronger, more energised and confident in their own body.
What would you say to those who are considering getting in touch with you but are nervous or apprehensive?
At Bounce Back we understand that exercise can be intimidating. You don’t have to have to have experience going to the gym or participating in an exercise programme. Bounce Back Exercise is suitable for absolutely anyone. Bounce Back sessions are challenging but always manageable. Everyone can benefit from exercise and we are there to support you.
Don’t hesitate to get in touch to find out more on our website.
