Maggie’s centres are a national charity providing help for anyone affected by cancer including friends and family. The Highlands centre is located at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness and offers information, activities, and a space to meet and share experiences with others. There are various support groups, welfare and benefits advice, wellbeing workshops and complementary therapies. People are encouraged to drop in for a chat or visit the website for more details.
Located in Elgin, this is a support service offering emotional and social support to anyone affected by cancer including loved ones and children. The service offers complementary and relaxation therapies, a therapy garden and a shop. The centre also has activities such as health walks and healthy eating workshops. Based at the Highlands Maggie’s Centre this is a support group for women of any age who have undergone or who are receiving treatment for any type of gynaecological cancer – including ovarian, cervical, endometrial, peritoneal and vulval. The aim of the group is to help and connect those affected by a gynaecological cancer and offer emotional support and provide information.
Ileostomy and Internal Pouch Support Group
A nationwide charity providing support, information, and befriending services to people living with an ileostomy or internal pouch via local groups. They offer practical advice and information as well as support and someone to talk to. Their Highlands group, based in Inverness is run by Jim Anderson. You can contact him directly to find out more.
This hospice based in Inverness offers palliative and end of life care for people living with life-limiting conditions. It supports people in their homes, and other places of care, as well as at the hospice, in its day support service, or as an in-patient. Services include pain/symptom management, a befriending support service, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, complementary therapies and spiritual care.
