Cancer Support Services in Newport | City Spotlight

Situated on the River Usk, Newport is Wales’ third largest city. Famous for the city’s port and castle, it is also well known for its cancer support services in the area.

As part of our latest City Spotlight, we take a look at just couple of the fantastic cancer support organisations in Newport, Wales.

Rutherford Cancer Centre – South Wales

State of the art private medical centre providing diagnostic technology and treatments including radiotherapy, chemotherapy, proton beam therapy, as well as supportive wellbeing services. The centre works to suit treatment to the personal needs of all patients, the staff include multi-disciplinary team of trained registered professionals including clinical and medical oncologists, therapy radiographers, medical physicists and dosimetrists, nurses and supportive care teams.

Sing With Us Choir – Cwmbran

A group of local choirs located all across Wales bringing together people living with cancer to help them find support, friendship, fun and a way to reduce anxiety and depression. Everyone and anyone affected by cancer, of all abilities is welcome to attend and this is a chance to spend time with others in a similar situation in a relaxed and supportive environment.

The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation – Newport Support Group

Part of a nationwide foundation offering 45 support groups around the UK, who offer anyone affected by lung cancer detailed information about the illness and practical advice covering a wide range of subjects, plus the chance to speak to others dealing with the illness. They operate a helpline on 0800 358 7200 if you have any questions about lung cancer. The support group is on the first Wednesday of the month, from 11am to 1pm, but please call 01633 656149 or 01873 732860 for more details on how support has been affected by Covid.

Cwmbran Chronic Blood Cancer Support Group

A service offering practical advice and support for anyone affected by all forms of leukaemia and other blood cancers. This support group provides help for anyone going through a blood cancer diagnosis. They have meetings hosted by a haematology clinical nurse specialist who will be on hand to provide practical and emotional support as well as the chance to meet others and share experiences Cwmbran Library, Cwmbran. St David’s Hospice Care, Newport

A hospice service providing bespoke help and care tailored to individual needs including at home care, specialist nurses and advice and support. They provide end-of-life care services for people living with life-limiting illnesses, including complementary therapies, emotional support, practical advice, and support groups. Cruse Bereavement Gwent

Cruse is a nationwide charity that provides support to those who have been bereaved, following the death of someone close including practical advice as well as emotional support.
