Support for Brain Tumours in the UK | Brain Tumour Awareness

13 March 2023 — david-allen

Each year, over 12,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with brain tumours, of which around half are cancerous.

In recognition of Brain Tumour Awareness Month, we shine a light on some of the incredible organisations offering help and support to those living with a brain tumour in the UK.

Brain Tumour Support

This fabulous support service provides specialist information, practical guidance and emotional support for people living with a brain tumour. Support is offered online, by telephone, e-mail and through their specialised Zoom support sessions. The charity also runs local events and support groups across the country.

The Brain Tumour Charity

The Brain Tumour Charity offers a great network of advice and support from telephone and email support to specialised support for young adults and children. Their Brian app helps you manage your experience day-to-day and your data helps to accelerate brain tumour research. There is also the ability to connect to others affected by brain tumours as well as an expert money and benefits clinic.

Brain Tumour Research

This cancer research charity raises vital funds for scientific research into brain tumours. Its 3 national hat wearing days allow a fun and creative way to raise awareness and donations. The service provides a range of information on brain tumour symptoms, diagnosis, and treatments. In addition, it signposts to support groups, financial support services and helplines.

BrainsTrust

This charity has a simple vision: for everyone with a brain tumour to feel less afraid, less alone and more in control. They provide personalised support and build resources that help people with a brain tumour and their loved ones live the life they want after diagnosis. They work with people in the clinical setting to secure the best possible care for people with a brain tumour and campaign to solve real issues which people with a brain tumour face.

Brain Tumour Action

This support service is a voluntary organisation with 4 main objectives; to provide support for patients and carers of those with a brain tumour, training programmes for those working with brain tumour sufferers, provide information on brain tumours and their treatment, as well as research into brain tumours. They offer support and counselling as well as signpost to local support groups.

Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity

Working across Yorkshire, this charity works to provide the best patient and family support network they can to those affected by brain tumours as well as working to find a cure for the disease. It offers befriending, bereavement support, cancer information materials, counselling, and support from health professionals. The charity also runs a number of events across Yorkshire to help fundraise, offer support or even a bit of fun shopping in their Headingley charity shop.
